International Defensive Pistol

International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is a shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters using practical gear and practical guns. The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment. An interested person can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be competitive. “Competition only” equipment is not permitted in this sport. For more information please visit the official IDPA web site.

There is also a YouTube channel.

WPRC hosts a Tier 1 IDPA match on the second Saturday of the month (confirm with the WPRC Calendar) where you’ll get to test your skills against others that are at a similar skill level and using similar equipment. Registration is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. followed by a safety briefing at 10:00 and the match is usually over before 2:30 p.m. These matches are open to the public (WPRC membership is not required).

We also offer an organized, but flexible, IDPA practice on the Sunday preceding the monthly match from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. This is usually on the outdoor pistol range when weather and daylight permit. The practice is open to the public and all skill levels are welcome. Beginners will find the practice sessions a fantastic way to gain an understanding of the sport, hone their shooting skills, and get guidance from experienced competitors and Safety Officers. There is no commitment required and we are happy to introduce the sport to you.
